Internship Experiences
with Good Works (this would count as an MM720 site)
Summer Service 2020
Deepen your discipleship and develop your leadership abilities in
this 9-week, paid internship. June 7 to August 8, 2020
Make disciples with teens & adults who join us for short-term mission trips (Work Retreats).
• Live in Christian community at the Good Works Hannah House.
• Interact with Good Works staff in weekly discussions on justice, discipleship, community, Appalachian culture, and ministry with people in poverty.
• Practice hospitality and build relationships with people without homes who live at the Timothy House.
• Help lead our weekly community meal, Friday Night Life.
• All Summer Service interns have one or two areas of emphasis from among these opportunities:
o Serving in practical, hands on ways through light construction and repairs at the homes of seniors and people with disabilities through Neighbors Helping Neighbors.
o Creating engaging activities with kids every day at Summer Kids’ Discovery Club, and helping to facilitate a Summer Lunch for children and adults.
o Mentor local youth ages 14 to 17 who are engaged in service, character development, and growing healthy food through our Teen Agricultural Internship.
• Applications are due by or before March 31.
Appalachian Immersion
Experience the people and places of rural Appalachia deeply as you spend 4, 5 or 9 months immersed in the Good Works community.
• Live in Christian community at the Good Works Hannah House.
• Build mutual relationships with people struggling with poverty.
• Grow in your walk with God through study, reflection, and spiritual disciplines.
• Offer hospitality and leadership to short-term mission groups.
• Provide leadership in a wide range of Good Works contexts including our shelter for people without homes, weekly community meal and kids’ club, and opportunities for practical service with people who are older, widowed or experiencing a disability.
• Share your home and life with people transitioning from homelessness.
• Housing, food and a $500/month stipend are provided.
• Internships generally run from September to December and January to April, but the program is flexible with opportunities to stay on for the summer.
• Applications are available any time.

Week of Service
Share a week of learning and serving with the Good Works community. Room and board are provided. Anyone 16 years or older is welcome to apply any time.
Hannah House Internship
This is an opportunity for college students and people who work part time to live in Christian Community in the Hannah House while serving with Good Works 20 hours a week. There is a program fee for this internship. Apply any time.
Academic Internships
Good Works provides internships to a variety of academic disciplines both graduate and under-graduate. With advanced planning, we can offer a range of unique opportunities to meet the requirements of different majors. Contact us in advance to talk through what you are hoping for, what your internship requires, and what we can offer.
