Senior Pastor

Thomaston First Methodist Church Profile

132 Cherokee Road, Thomaston GA 30286

Thomaston (Georgia) First Methodist Church is seeking a Senior Pastor. Our congregation voted overwhelmingly (95%+) to disaffiliate from the United Methodist and to join the Global Methodist organization. We are working to build on that spirit of unity and enthusiasm as we seek a full-time pastor. The ideal candidate is someone fully alive in His Spirit and able to enthusiastically inspire others to be. At this transitional time, we need a strong vision caster to build engagement as we define how Thomaston First will worship passionately, love extravagantly, and witness boldly. Inspiring and challenging sermons are greatly valued by our congregation, as is a regular practice of visiting and calling on the sick and shut-in. Other important characteristics are a dynamic and engaging personality, and being physically present at the church on a regular basis. The pastor will lead Sunday services as well as special services such as Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, as well as weddings and funerals. Strong administrative skills are desired, as is an ability to work well with and mentor other staffers.

Theological ideals

The incoming pastor must be approved by the Global Methodist Church. Its vision is, “To join God in a journey of bringing new life, reconciliation, and the presence of Christ to all people and to helping each person reflect the character of Christ.” Our church believes in traditional Bible teaching grounded in scripture. Methodists place emphasis on the universal work of grace, the new birth, and serving others.

Worship Services & Bible Studies

Presently, we have three services on Sundays: An abbreviated traditional service in the chapel at 8:15 with an average attendance of 8-12, a contemporary service at 9:00 in the fellowship hall with an average attendance of 60-70, and a traditional service in the sanctuary with an average attendance of 60-70. Sunday Schools meet at 10:00. There is a Wednesday evening meal in the fellowship hall with a Bible study led by the pastor following the meal.

We have a beautiful campus with a traditional sanctuary, a two-story annex with church offices and meeting rooms, a fellowship hall, and a large “youth room.” We own a lovely parsonage to house our pastoral family. It is spacious with five bedrooms and 3 ½ baths and located in a quiet, well-established neighborhood near the church. The fenced backyard is spacious and ready for children or pets.
