Pastor at Elevation Methodist Church

Elevation Methodist Church

Elevation Methodist Church is excited to meet the pastor that Jesus is preparing for us. We know that by following Jesus’ plan the outcome can only be a blessing to our church and our community. We are excited to see the great things happening for the Kingdom of God. We have put together information that we believe will be helpful in bringing the new Pastor and our Church together.

Our financial condition at present is steady. We are debt free and pay our apportionments on time. We lost a few members during the disaffiliation process and took a financial hit during COVID. Currently, we find ourselves in a pattern of regrowth and are reestablishing our financial stability. Since we are debt free, and our active members are committed to growth, we anticipate a return to a more positive financial state. Elevation is willing to do what is needed to support our pastor and missions. Our tithes are steady but do tend to fluctuate. We have many members who remember fundraisers as a time gathered to work for the needs of the church. During these times of church dinners and auctions there was a feeling of comradery and love. The community also enjoyed these events at our church. We have a couple of fundraisers each year, the annual golf tournament and a Boston Butt sale. We know that all things are attainable with the faith of Jesus and the dedication of our members.

Our Lay Leadership is strong. There has never been a challenge that has not been met head on with cooperation and love. Our committees are healthy and active. There are times when we don’t always agree, but we always come together, pray, and then act.

EMC desires a pastor who stands firmly on the Word of God. We have a growing community, which creates the opportunity of evangelizing and growing our congregation. Our sick and shut-ins will need visits on a regular basis and our members look forward to visits and getting to know the pastor as well. Sermons based on scripture and from the heart, as opposed to read from a script, are much needed. A strong Christian leader will provide ministry to all members with special attention to the children and youth. Our choir provides a musical presence and we are experiencing upbeat music and desire upbeat preaching. During our past appointments we developed a service time of 9:30 with Sunday School to follow. Our congregation is happy with this time and there is a plan to continue.

EMC is 162 years old and is deeply rooted in the Elevation community. Many families have been here their entire lives and were preceded by multiple family members and generations. We have a tomb of an unknown soldier in our cemetery, which connects us to the civil war era. The original Elevation School building sits on our property. We have a written history of EMC that was shared at our 150th anniversary celebration.

EMC is predominantly Caucasian. We have had African American families to attend in the past and have some biracial members. Race is not, nor would it likely ever be an issue with the people of EMC. We are a conservative group as evidenced by our recent disaffiliation. EMC offers many spiritual opportunities to gather. There is an active older woman’s group. Our men’s group is currently inactive, but we hope to grow this group. The young adults who lead the children and youth are growing in their spiritual life. They provide many activities for the children, children’s church on a weekly basis, and are constantly working to grow and lead the children and youth of Elevation to love the Lord. We have in the past had a strong youth group but find ourselves without many youth and hope to see this section of the congregation grow.

EMC actively supports the Benson Area Ministerial Association food pantry and clothing closet. There is a yearly back to school drive, Thanksgiving Meal, and Christmas toy drive which allows us to serve others. This group derived from Elevation, after many years of holding these events, members realized it needed full community support and BAMA came to fruition. We are a rest stop for the annual Tuna Run which is a group of bicyclists who ride 100 miles. This is a good will gesture which allows us to be helpful to others. A large portion of our property is home to a beautiful community garden. Many people, as well as the food pantry, from the area have enjoyed the bounty of this garden.

A pastor with a passion for growth and ability to lead, while preaching the gospel and living It, would show the love of Jesus to all he meets. A part time secretary is provided to help the pastor with administerial work. Experience with different personalities, compassion. and accessibly in times of need would be welcome. Someone who will commit to our growth and plans to stay awhile, someone who is in the early to middle part of their career with a family looking for a great place to raise their children are all qualities we would love to see. We are open to hearing from pastors who feel that they are called to and align with the needs of Elevation. We know these are our human wishes, we also know that Jesus’ plan is the one that is best. We are praying for the right pastor at the right time!

Our beautiful parsonage was fully renovated to comfortably accommodate our pastor and family. The one-story farmhouse features 3 bedrooms, 2 full baths, a large eat in kitchen and living area, as well as a small study. It has a beautiful front porch with a swing for enjoying the sunsets, a double carport, and a separate storage building. It is surrounded by open fields and gorgeous views. It is within a mile of the church and not on the church grounds allowing the pastor and family some privacy while still being accessible. We have a contract on the grounds of the church and parsonage for lawn maintenance. We are centrally located between Raleigh, Fayetteville, and Goldsboro. As a bonus, we are about three hours to the mountains and less than two to the coast. Also, we are surrounded by state-of-the-art medical facilities. The local public schools are good, and with the recent addition of a new superintendent, they are going through some new improvements that will enhance the quality of education even further. There is a large and active home school group in the area. Private schools include Brookside Christian Academy, Cape Fear Christian Academy: which is a Pre-K through 12 and a student teacher ratio of 10:1, and there are others as well. There are also active parks and recreation departments in Benson and Four Oaks.

We are currently able to offer a $40,000 salary, with pension and healthcare options. This salary comes with a commitment for improvement as our congregation grows.
We offer a parsonage that we believe is one of the best around and a welcoming and loving congregation. We have a beautiful church and grounds and a wonderful community with an active downtown. We are excited and look forward to helping our new pastor get settled and comfortable. We are looking forward to the exciting times ahead for Elevation Methodist Church!

The congregation longs for “someone who can grow with us and be here a long time!”
The current interim is committed through Easter, and perhaps into early May, 2024. Elevation is what I’d consider a “barely rural” congregation, in an area that is growing explosively as more and more working professionals are leaving Wake County/Raleigh for more affordable Johnston County property and less “urban sprawl.” The church is going to grow – and has been growing, though the interim relationship has not been ideal. The house is first class. The sanctuary is not large but the Fellowship Hall is new and very nice. The salary will grow, with the congregation, their recently revised 2023-2024 Budget is looking at a full-time salary for the “right” man or woman of God at $40,000 not including travel and other benefits.

  • The congregation Disaffiliated from the NC Conference of the UMC at the end of 2022.
