YOUTH AND COLLEGE PASTOR JOB DESCRIPTION:
STATUS: Full-time, Salaried
HOURS: 40 Hours per week Plus
SALARY: Competitive according to experience and education
Mission Statement:
The goal of the Student Ministry is to help make students fully devoted disciple makers of Jesus Christ by teaching them to…. SURRENDER their lives to God, GROW in their Christian faith, REACH out to lost students, SERVE our community in need, and GO into foreign lands with the message of the cross!
Supervision:
The Youth Pastor reports to the Administrative Pastor for spiritual and ministry guidance. The Administrative Pastor provides an annual evaluation of the Youth Pastor’s performance, based on an agreed Ministry Action Plan.
The Primary Task:
Develop and implement a comprehensive approach to student ministry. This comprehensive approach is based on the understanding of the primary task of youth ministry to:
disciple the youth and college students into a personal relationship with God in both large group and smaller relational environments
grow the student ministry by creating attractive and compelling environments to which students can invite their non-Christian friends.
build a team of passionate adult youth coaches to help mentor and disciple the youth
teach students the Bible and what that requires from them
provide them with opportunities for nurture and growth
show Jesus’ love through modeling
challenge the students to respond to God’s call to serve in their communities and world
support and assist the parents in the process of discipling their youth
equip students to share the Gospel with their friends
o build a ministry that engages with local Middle and High schools in the area.Responsibilities:
1. Plan, develop, and implement all aspects of a balanced student ministry.
2. Mentor students in developing their leadership skills.
3. Stay abreast of new resources and changes in student ministry and culture and adjust our programming as needed to maintain a current and effective program.
4. Share these changes with the parents to assist them in better understanding their youth and the culture they live in.
5. Participate in continuing education events and training opportunities.
6. Recruit and train volunteers to serve in various aspects of student ministry and ensure adequate adult to youth ratios.
7. Provide leadership for youth coaches, mentors, and parents.
8. Communicate with the youth and parents in a timely manner and as effectively as possible using all available resources (email, website, bulletin, newsletter, texting, etc.).
9. Be available to encourage, challenge, and counsel the youth, young adults and parents towards effective lives as followers of Jesus
10. Work in concert with the gifts and talents of other staff members and maintain a strong teamwork mentality.
11. Attend all weekly Staff Meetings as well as any other regular scheduled meetings.
12. Ensure that our Child Protection Policy is observed in all youth ministry settings.
Qualifications and Aptitudes:
1. Adhere to theology and values in harmony with Christ Harbor’s mission and values.
2. Clear, observable commitment to Jesus Christ
3. A relational and pastoral heart
4. Must have vision and a demonstrated ability to plan, develop, coordinate, manage and implement a student ministry.
5. Must have good written and verbal communication skills, conflict management skills, and computer skills.
6. Must have a proven ability to work effectively with youth, young adults, parents, diverse individuals, and teams of volunteers.
