A note of invitation from Rev. Dr. Harris:
The South Georgia Conference has over 580 churches grouped into 419 pastoral charges. We have churches in our larger cities like Savannah, Columbus, Macon, Warner Robins, and Albany. We have college towns with major universities like Georgia Southern and Valdosta State University. In Savannah and Glynn County, we have numerous coastal churches. We have strong county seat churches scattered throughout South Georgia with multigenerational congregations, full programming, and a strong community presence. In addition, we have 45 clergy persons serving in a wide variety of ways in Extension Ministry. The 211 active ordained and commissioned clergy are uniquely positioned to play a leadership role in the life of our annual conference. All but one of the men and women coming before our Board of Ordained Ministry for provisional and full membership this year are already serving in local churches and gaining valuable experience. A saying we have in South Georgia is that “we play freshmen.” Freshmen football players who are good enough naturally want to play on teams where they have a chance to play their freshmen year rather than sit on the bench. Likewise, in South Georgia, we have clergy recently graduated from seminary who are being strategically appointed by our Cabinet to churches where their passion, enthusiasm, and cutting edge education can be put to use to bring new life into churches needing what they bring to the table.
As the Director of Ministerial Services for our conference, I would love to meet you, answer any questions you might have about our conference, and also hear from you about your seminary experience and your hopes for serving wherever you are thinking about serving.
