LITS COVID-19 Phase 1 Reopening Plan

The Library, Information, and Technology Services Department (LITS) would like to commend and thank you for your efforts over these past months to adapt to the recent unprecedented challenges. Your sacrifices and perseverance have consistently buoyed our ongoing commitment to support you, and we’re glad to announce that your patience will soon be rewarded as, in fulfilling Asbury Seminary’s Phase 1 Reopening Plan and in accordance with our Protocols and Procedures, we can soon begin to restore services and expand our existing options.

Asbury Community:

Most importantly, the LITS department is glad to announce that we will begin restoring in-person public services (at the B.L. Fisher Library building lobby at the Main Desk (i.e Help Desk) in KY. Starting on 18 May 2020, come through the front doors of the library and we can offer these services Monday through Friday, from 8 am-5 pm. While the remainder of the library building and our offices on the 3rd floor of Stanger Hall must remain closed to the public, staff will be available at the Help Desk to assist you however possible. All patrons should wear a mask (a surgical or N95 mask is not required) when visiting the Help Desk. Of course, the support staff will also remain available remotely–by email at helpdesk@asburyseminary.edu, by phone, and through Zoom meetings–to respond to your requests quickly and thoroughly. Library Materials pickup will also continue (LITS COVID-19 Curbside Pickup Policy), and beginning immediately, checked-out materials can be returned to the foyer for check-in.

For Students:

We will also expand our pick-up options for current students who, in addition to requesting books through library loan, will also be able to make document printing requests by e-mailing documents to helpdesk@asburyseminary.edu. Students may schedule a pickup of printed documents in the B.L. Fisher Library building lobby at the Main Desk (i.e Help Desk) in KY. Additionally, we will be able to begin offering Archive Research appointments again. Of course, Writing Center, Research, and Technology Support will also remain available remotely–by email at helpdesk@asburyseminary.edu, by phone, and through Zoom meetings–to respond to your requests quickly and thoroughly.

For Faculty:

We’re happy to announce that we can also expand our support offerings for Faculty. Most notably the LITS Studio will reopen to provide on-site video production by appointment, either indoors or outdoors (https://guides.asburyseminary.edu/ats-studio-covid19). Also, in addition to the in-person Instructional Support meetings already available, Archive Research and in-office Technology Support will be available by appointment. These services, as well as Writing Center, Research, and Technology services will, of course, continue to be available by email, on the phone, and through Zoom.

For Staff:

Support opportunities for staff will also increase as, in addition to the expanded services available to the entire community, we can begin offering in-office Technology support to them by appointment as well. Of course, remote support opportunities will continue as the Help Desk will remain available through helpdesk@asburyseminary.edu to respond to tickets as quickly as possible, as well as remaining available on the phone or through Zoom.

Again, we appreciate your patience and perseverance through these last months as we’ve all worked together to overcome the obstacles and inconveniences of this unusual time. We hope that our efforts have assisted you as you’ve pursued your vocation, work, and studies, and we look forward to helping you even more as we move into the exciting phases of reopening.
