Final January Term in 2025 and Expanded Summer Term Options

Beginning with the 2025-2026 academic year, the January term (J-term) will be eliminated from Asbury Seminary’s academic calendar. Thus, the January 2025 session will be the last time the Seminary offers J-term courses. With registration opening on October 14th, please consider this important new change in the Academic Calendar.

A primary driver of the decision about J-Term is that students are not able to get financial aid for that term, but they can for Summer courses. In light of that, the Seminary is also expanding the Summer course offerings. The enhanced Summer term will be longer and provide enhanced opportunities for students to complete their degrees more quickly. By shifting resources to the summer, the Seminary can create an improved learning experience that avoids the weather-related challenges of J-term.

Students are encouraged to take advantage of the final J-term in January 2025. Students are also encouraged to think about the summer term and provide feedback on the kinds of courses they think would be of the most benefit. “More information on expanded Summer term options will be available soon, and we are confident that these changes will provide greater support for your academic journey,” said Dr. John Ragsdale, Interim Provost and Senior VP of Academics, in a recent email to students.

If students have any questions about this change or feedback about summer course offerings, they are encouraged to reach out to the Registrar’s Office or their academic advisor.
